During the Fashion Week, which started in Milan on February 20, 2020, fashion enthusiasts were waiting especially for the 2020 Fall / Winter collections of famous brands such as Versace, Etro, Sportmax and Marni. Those to present the clothes were Celebrity top models such as Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber. In every fashion show, the models were the most important of the clothes.
However, the virus was not idle, it was announced on the second day of Fashion Week that a 78-year-old Italian bricklayer who was hospitalized in northern Italy had died. It was understood on the day that the bricklayer who had been hospitalized for ten days died of a coronavirus patient, and upon this development, another patient who was treated with pneumonia was tested and it turned out to be a coronavirus patient.
The death of the Italian bricklayer from coronavirus led to the start of a new era in Italy. The first case of coronavirus in Italy,
which has a population of sixty million, was seen in three people, two of them Chinese, at the end of January, patients were quarantined in Rome, while Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte banned flights of Italian planes to China.
Patients admitted to hospitals in the 16 million-strong north of Italy with a population of sixty million were asked if they had relations with China and the Chinese, and those who did not have a relationship were not tested for coronavirus.
After the bricklayer who was given the title” first European to die of coronavirus”, the relations of the patients admitted to hospitals in the north with China and the Chinese were not investigated, the virus symptoms were based and coronavirus testing was started. That’s when it became clear that an outbreak of the virus had spread eerily in northern Italy. Fashion shows, concerts were banned, entertainment venues and schools were closed.
It Was Too Late
In March the coronavirus crashed into Italy like a tsunami, like a nightmare. While the loss of life from the corona was 2 percent in China, it reached up to 6 percent in Italy.
The situation was particularly grave in northern Italy. COVID-19 did not say young or old. The Italian government first quarantined 10 cities, then the entire country.
On 19 March, there were 427 casualties in the country due to COVID-19 and the total number of casualties exceeded 3,400. 2,600 paramedics who tried to treat patients were also among the patients. They were asking for help from the military to remove the funerals.
In China, the origin of the outbreak, the number of people who died since the beginning of the outbreak was 3,242, but Italy had overtaken China with 3,400.
Fear, panic, rumours, accusations carried out of Italy and engulfed all of Europe: COVID-19 had no jokes. The situation was far more serious than thought.

The Fashion Week, held annually in Milan, Italy, is of great value not only for Italy and Milan but also for Europe and China.
Do not say “what relevance” when it comes to China, China, which Westerners call “the factory of the world”, has a place not only in the production of mobile phones, computers, automobiles, aircraft, but also in the production of clothing-apparel, fabric, lace, shoes, bags, wedding dresses, evening dresses, sequins and accessories. Many countries have left textiles to China, which is a difficult branch of industry.
From the range to fans and buckles, bridal bouquets, hats, bridal head and collar flowers, grooms, Europe’s most famous brands and products are also produced in China.
In fact, they add the expression “Producer in China” to attract the trust and praise of the consumer in the advertisements of local and foreign wedding dresses, grooms and evening dresses.
As for the large increase in the number of Chinese experts working in fashion shows and preparations before Milan Fashion Week held in late February, and the arrivals of these experts between Milan and China, the coronavirus epidemic spread in Italy on the same days. Many Italians blamed Fashion Week, which they saw as the responsible of the outbreak, and the government for not taking the necessary measures. Portugal and Spain would later join these charges.
For the first time in the history of Europe, the press had debated whether fashion shows were necessary or not, and questioned what they had gained. In May and June, many famous fashion companies announced that they would not do any fashion shows other than 2-3 fashion shows each year. They would discount the prices of their products as much as the amount of money they spent on fashion shows.
